"And what is wrong with the blue one?"

by akerman @ Tuesday, 14. Feb, 2006 - 03:13:02 pm

Dear Friends (24)

Thomas and I were sat the other day watching something on television, it was either; Battlestar Galatica, Star Trek, or something along those lines. It’s all a sort of boy thing, Space, Fast planes, different worlds, very escapist. Well anyway, as one programme became the next, I began to see a similar sort of theme coming from them, all the space crafts needed “defence shields” or “cloaking devices” to protect them from alien forces of evil (gosh I’m really getting into this). We even get to see exterior shots of their craft coming under bombardment from the alien ships, and you get to see the shield as it comes under attack, almost invisible until…

Because of my God-incidence in January, a good friend pointed me towards a passage in the Bible, Paul’s Letter to the Ephesians 6 v 10 - 18, which says;

The Armour of God

Finally, be strong in the Lord and his mighty power. Put on the full armour of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armour of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.

There it was, even we as human beings, we have our own defence shields to protect us from evil and the dark forces. We fly through life, from one meeting to the next, dashing here and there at ‘warp’ speed, and come under attack from time to time, well I now have a button - the above passage to protect my ship from anything evil. It works, it really does.

Medical Update - I have got an appointment due soon with the Speech & Language Therapist, followed later on this month with the Pain Management Clinic. I’m also waiting for an appointment to drop on the door mat from the Queen Elizabeth in Birmingham.

From the Patio Doors - Very very very cold, the patio is scattered with stale pita breads and a frozen bowl of water. The most comical thing this morning was watching a pigeon (my least favourite birdie) tugging and pecking at a piece of muffin, they sort of, tug and throw the piece into the air, well this piece of muffin landed on his back, the stupid bird, then went around in a circle looking for it, until it fell of his back.

A funny thing happen on the way to the Bus Stop - You've got to have something to smile about each day, and this made Thomas and I chucke yesterday. We have to walk through a car park on the way to the bus stop, well in my case it's more of a shuffle. Cars were waiting for spaces, and this car next to us, wound down their window and asked if I was moving, I looked down at my feet and replied "Yes, just about" he laughed and said, "so you've not got your car with you?"

A little joke to end with -

Daniel is a scruffy kid and his grandmother is forever berating him:

"Vye are you so scruffy? Look at you! You never even vear a neck tie! For your next birthday, I'm going to get you a neck tie so you can be smart like all the other children".

Sure enough, the birthday comes and granma gets two neck ties for Daniel, a red and a blue.
Daniel is genuinely pleased and tries on the red tie:

"Granma, Granma, look at this great red tie! Isn't it great?"

And granma says:
"And what is wrong with the blue one?"

Until next time,

Shalom and God Bless

Paul

Dilema .....

by akerman @ Sunday, 12. Feb, 2006 - 03:19:22 pm

What do I do ....

For a few years now, the Salt 'n' Pepper transformation my head of hair, has passed some what un-noticed, and even the beard, if it's allowed a couple of days off, shows signs of grey coming through.

But my youngest pointed out to me as I came out from the bathroom the other morning, that my chest was changing colour as well, "Why are there more grey hairs than last week Dad?" I replied that it was down to one thing - Children! and why was he keeping a stock take of the amount of grey hairs!

But my dilema is, when should I let, 'she who shall be obeyed' the freedom, (as she will no doubt want to)the pleasure (she would no doubt gain from seeing me in pain) of waxing the aforementioned part of my anatomy?

Opinion !

by akerman @ Wednesday, 08. Feb, 2006 - 10:56:02 am

Opinion

I was asked the other day, what I thought the word meant for me and I could not think of a definition, so this is what it means, according to The New Penguin English Dictionary:-

1. A view or judgement formed about a particular matter
2. A belief that is not supported by positive knowledge
3. A generally held view

And A Matter of Opinion is:-

1. Something about which people differ and which cannot be decided objectively or proved conclusively one way or another.

As a child I can always remember being told to ‘think before you speak’ and ‘you can think it … but you can’t say it’ or even ‘examine your words before opening your mouth’

Do we do our children harm, by not letting their own opinions show through at a young age? Surely it’s their view or opinion of the world as they see it, which helps to form them? If a parent prevents their child from ‘airing’ their opinion, is the parent just being opinionated or are they protecting their offspring?

If a person or group of people share a different matter of opinion, which is not the generally held view, is that wrong?

If I don’t like reality TV, or game shows, that’s fine, I will not ‘force’ my opinion on others

It seems that these days, opinion is causing much disharmony amongst publishers of cartoons and observers of those publications, the two groups will always differ in their opinions.

My advice to my children has always been to not adopt my opines, have your own, share mine if you have to, but make sure you adapt them and improve on them and always have a willingness, that you might be wrong.

What do your Opinions mean to you?
;)
