Just when you think you are just a Mr or Mrs nobody sat blogging away to your hearts content, along comes a mother who suggests looking up her family tree. Within Five minutes we have traced a line backed to William 1. My youngest came up to me to enquire what all the excitement was about, and we explained that we were indirectly related to HRH, but several hundred times removed. "What does removed mean" Now that bit is the bit that is a little difficult to explain.

I'm sure that you do your best to satisfy the enquiring mind - the most permanent learning - question/answer.

It's as addictive as blogging isn't it?
I'm doing some of my family tree most is going ok but do you ever have those times when you feel as if you are banging your head on a brick wall? For me it's my Grandfather on my Father's side He was either an alien from another planet or a secret agent who had to keep changing his name to protect his identity. Ahh! well perhaps I'll just stick to blogging, Your Majesty (Is this the correct way to address you from now) lol

I couldn't give a toss about my family tree unless I stood to inherit a large fortune.

I'm torn between, going back to my father's tree, which goes back to 1611 a then stops, giving it all up, because there are the "skeltetons in the cupboard" or satisfying my youngest's enquiring mind. Dave I take your point about the large fortune! That's got to be appealing....

G'day Your Highness. I thought the English were all connected to the Royal Family? Family trees are important to us colonials - we are all keen to see if we don't have English forebears. Alas! 50% of my rootstock were English - a soldier & a civil servant, redeemed by an Irish soldier and a Scottish missionary. Maybe we are related? Hmm!

G'day Cousin
I like your thoughts. I think you have to be particular about which member of the royal family you want to be related to.
Have you got any skeletons in your cupboard that you know of?
We were meant to have been Rum Runners, which sounds fun, that was according to my Dad, but another relative found at that was wrong, we were in fact Slave Traders - now I don't feel so good about that, but I suppose the two could have gone together!

There are rum runners in my family too.

Just had it confirmed, well according to the "family historian", he will like that I have called him that. Wiiliam the Conq was my, (big breath) GREAT GREAT GREAT GREAT GREAT GREAT GREAT GREAT GREAT GREAT GREAT GREAT GREAT GREAT GREAT GREAT GREAT GREAT GREAT GREAT GREAT GREAT GREAT GREAT GREAT GREAT Grandfather ..... is there an easier way of putting that. The downside is, that there are probally thousands of people who can make this claim. Ahh well
